AN EXPLANATION FROM ME ABOUT TYGB BREAK/BREAKUP/HIATUS

To anyone who ever ….Listened to The Years Gone By, bought any of our music, our merch, shared a story or a laugh, let us sleep on your floor, made us food, or treated us like we meant something to you this is for you….

My name is Louis Dobrolsky i played drums for TYGB since i was 16 years old (when the band formed). I  have decided to shed some light on our bands Hiatus/Break/Break up or whatever you would like to call it.  As the story goes i was at a birthday party in the 8th grade and had a friend who told me to come jam with his band. I got my parents to bring me to a random kids house (which ended up being mike from tygb) where we would play punk rock music together. There i learned that Mike had a friend Nick who sang in his previous band. We ended up having Nick come and there we collectively made The Years Gone By. Over the years we have had 3 different bass players Zak West, Dan Gilmartin, and our final most prominent bassist Will. If i tried to include every memory or moment from this bands history we would be here for days so let me cut to the chase…

All i have ever wanted to do is play music. For the last 8 years of my life all that I did was eat, sleep, live, and dream about playing music for the rest of my life with my BEST FRIENDS. We have self released records, we have toured the country in small SUV’s, we have played amazing shows, and we have played terrible shows. All in all we loved every minute of it. I LOVED every minute of it. I can honestly say that in every situation we tried to make our band the best we could with all of our heart and pushed the envelope. In 2008 we got to experience what the music industry calls being a “signed artist” with an opportunity from indie label Rise Records. We got to live together and record “Forever Comes Too Soon”. We put that album out in stores! That was something we always dreamt of doing. After non stop touring for 6 months straight and being away from family, friends, girlfriends we thrived for more for our band. At this point in our lives we were left with one of the biggest decisions we ever had to make. We parted ways with Rise Records. As a band we were possessed to get everything we every wanted to achieve. From there we went on to record “Something You Know Nothing About” to really show the fans and the industry what we were made of. We then took the band out on the road for a few more tours. I had started noticing more and more that music industry was shifting, that kids were changing, and that it all of a sudden didn’t feel like we would receive the credit i thought we rightfully deserved.

After spending the holidays home and recording some demos (which would have eventually made a full length record). I had found myself thinking about life more and more and it lead me to a decision. I wanted to finish college and ensure myself some stability in life. Touring, recording, living my dream are all things that i will always love and will miss. For some reason i started a battle in my own mind that at 22 years old i was scared for my own financial future and wasn’t sure if i could be possibly ever have that from the band. Im not talking about FAME and FORTUNE i’m talking about paying the rent, being able to get gas, and support myself on my own. I guess you can call it growing up. I knew this would not be easy to tell any of the guys in the band. After speaking withe Mike he agreed that he had started feeling the same way and would also want to go back to college. Although Nick and Will were very supportive to our feelings, this is not the path that they wanted for our band. Unfortunately 50% of TYGB is about to start a new journey in life and i make up 25% of it. A journey that has left us with one Ultimate decision. A break. A long break that maybe will bring back our band stronger than ever, or might land us with lives as four best friends who loved something and tried for 8 years to make it our stability, career, and passion. For now this is where i want to leave off. I love you all. I love NICK, MIKE, AND WILL. They will always be my best friends.

WE WILL RELEASE the last three TRACKS we recorded with Paul Leavitt (all time low, the dangerous summer_) in Baltimore, Maryland

“DOWN”

“WHEN WE WERE KIDS”

“HEART IN BOY”

APRIL 1st VIA iTUNES and AMAZONmp3

ENJOY THEM!! THIS IS WHAT WE LOVED TO DO….

I love The Years Gone By.

WORK OUT BLOG!
For the last month i have been working out hard everyday..not only for a personal gain but to contribute to my drum playing everyday. I try to run at least a mile, do various kinds of lifting, sit ups, crunches and such. I have to admit i used to think that the type of guys that worked out everyday were pompous fools. I’m starting to realize that working out is 100% making me feeling better mentally and physically. Iv never really been the type that could eat anything i wanted and maintain my weight. So since i love food so much im going to make a commitment to working out hard!

My old drumset/practice set now!

I love this drumset! It brings me such great memories everytime i play it. This was my first kit that is now in my basement in NJ. I try to play on atleast once a day. This kit started as a plain maple wood finish and i got it redone from a good friends body shop. Its Sonor/slingeland kit from the 60’s. My dad played on this as his last kit of professional drumming. He was in a band called the kid brothers before he went on to own nightclubs. I dont think i could ever let this one go since it was handed down to me.
